Summary/Abstract: diplomatic setting. It begins with the theoretical introduction into the connection between diplomacy, military and interpreting, explaining some of the basic terms related to that. Based on the personal experience of the author while interpreting for military attachées, the paper continues with pointing out the translating of German military terminology into Slovak, including military ranks and some basic military terms as well. Following that, the brief overview of the translation of the ranks and the terms is presented. Moreover, the author expresses her further hopes considering dealing with this kind of terminology in the practice of interpreters, possibly giving an option of compiling a bilingual dictionary of military terminology (GE – SK) in the future.
