Albanian-German relations 1987-2007

Summary/Abstract: The history of Albanian-German relations is much older than the 20 years of our contemporary history. This paper is a first attempt to view these relations from a historic perspective. I am aware that this paper will be incomplete since the events covered here are still quite recent in historical terms, and the historian feels more confident and better informed in his profession, like a good wine taster does, when events and documents are judged from a sufficient distance of time. It is my privilege to bring these unpublished Albanian documentary sources of the high communist nomenclature, as well as of the Albanian policymaking institutions of the last 15 years. However a better understanding of Albanian-German relations of the last 20 years needs to be completed by German sources. I hope that in the future this insufficiency will be filled with the contribution of German researchers of Albanian issues.
