Summary/Abstract: Taking into consideration the huge prospects of scientific knowledge in medicine, the legal public has been given a responsible task to determine the legal framework for scientific development, particularly in terms of participation of human respondents in experimental projects. There is a general interest of the social community to have an insight into the methodology of scientific research processes, which is based on the awareness that prescribing conditions and standard procedures for the participation of human beings in experiments ensure the priority of interests and safeguard the general welfare of individuals in relation to the scientific imperatives. The legal regulation of this area of medicine is also useful for medical professionals and scientists given the fact that such regulation points out to the significance of the protected value whereas the provided legal or ethical rule brings about a possible solution to social problems and resolves the dilemma which scientific developments are also morally acceptable. In this paper, the author has attempted to point out to the social values and personal rights of an individual which enjoy special protection in the field of bioethics. Moreover, the author explores the standards of acceptable behavior of the participants included in the scientific research activities; these legal standards have been laid down in a number of the UNESCO declarations (primarily in the Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights), in the legal documents of the World Health Organization (primarily the Helsinki Declaration), and in the legal documents of the Council of Europe which are used as guidelines for the national legislations and judicial practice of the EU Member States in the field of bioethics (primarily the Convention on Human Rights and Biomedicine).
