Summary/Abstract: This research tries to present the political program of the Wallachian nobility and implicitly, its position towards the central authority 1595-1632.The Alba-Iulia Treaty was the crucial element of this program as it accurately rendered its political objectives during the reigns of Mihai Viteazul (Michael the Brave) and Leon Tomşa and during the entire 17th century. The Treaty reinforced the political power of the boyars. In fact, the monopoly over the main positions in the state, the reinforcement of the economic privileges and the exclusion of foreigners from the state system represented the framework of the nobility’s policy against the central authority. However, the implementation of these desiderata did not take place according to the conceptions of the elite; the relation between the ruler and nobility can be characterized more as sinuous.
