Summary/Abstract: The sexuality of children and youth from a Foucauldian perspective may be understood as a historical construct, a type of social-cultural narrative around which instruments of institutional activity and discursive strategy have developed. Every educational system is a political means of retaining or modifying the assimilation of discourses together with the knowledge and power that they bear. Sex education in Poland is a controversial issue, one entangled in ideological disputes. There has been discussion in the public sphere for years regarding whether the school has the right, or perhaps not only the right but also the obligation, or whether it is only claiming the right to ‘deal’ with sex. Relatively few studies have been conducted in this area. This article is an attempt at showing perception of sex education at school from the pupils’ point of view. By presenting the findings of focus group interviews with thirty-two respondents of both sexes, from 11 to 19 years old, the article reveals how pupils in selected primary, junior high and high schools in Warsaw view lessons in family life education and their activeness during these lessons.
