Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the problem of liminality (transition / change of state), transformation as well as multiplicity of self which characterize the entire work of the bilingual, German-Polish writer Peter/Piotr Lachmann. Those liminal states are strongly connected with the complex issue of the ethnic identity of the poem’s hero and at the same time with building the poet’s myth. These key aspects of his literary output are presented on the example of selected texts from 1979–1994.
