Summary/Abstract: Due to advanced new communication technologies, the essence of literature, way of writing, act of reading, reader’s expectations and the emotional nature of literary experiences has changed. Position of printed book in culture became undermined, even though new literary areas and better publishing opportunities had emerged. Modern day culture of participation enables collaborative writing and creation of fanfiction. Albeit current technologies allow automated creation of texts, such texts are devoided of emotions. Movie adaptations of literary texts ceased to be transparent immediations (term by Bolter and Grusin), because these days users operate the electronic media, often comment on the site’s content and also participate in co-creation of texts. Because of that, the question of authorship, as well as of the fictionality of literature got blurred.Contemporary society, by widespread use of electronic media, instrumentalizes both positive and negative human emotions for business, as well for economic and political purposes. Literature, on the other hand, is able to provoke readers to analyse emotions it conveys. Therefore, literature is still the trustee, the depositary and the guardian of emotional sovereignty of mankind.
