Summary/Abstract: The aim of this study is to analyze the HR tendencies in the regions to see how much human resource affects their potentials. Based on our former researches, it can be seen that human capital plays increasingly important role in the sustainable development in Hungary and in some regions the sufficient labour is not available. It is not only employment policy aspect, but a complex solution should be defined including education-policy, solidarity, system of social benefits, childcare policy etc. We must not forget that investment in human resource is a long-term one, therefore it should be a strategic objective in each region. In our research we collected and analyzed information and data about the human resource development policies as well as statistical data about the regions of Hungary, with special focus on the last decade. We also consider it important to introduce how much the regions of Hungary vary from human resource point of view, how huge is the difference between the different parts of the country and how close or far are the regions to the EUROPE 2020 targets in human resource development. Based on the statistical data and primary research findings, regions need to apply different strategies to moderate the inequalities and to achieve harmonized and sustainable human resource development throughout the country. Such strategies are really much needed because in the least-developed regions of Hungary, the age-structure of the population is unfavourable, the qualification of the overall population is poor, despite of the large number of job vacancies, the rate of unemployment is high. The aim of our paper is to provide an overall picture about the recent and current situation.
