Summary/Abstract: In general social opinion, the profession of journalist is included in the group of positions of trust. However, as it is proven by the analysis presented in this article, the legal characteristic of the profession of journalist does not allow including it in this category of terms. That is decided by vague legal status of that professional group, and, first of all, lack of appropriate legal warranties of due performance of the profession of journalist. The reservation should be made here that this conclusion does not decrease the assessment of social significance of the profession and the role of journalists in providing the citizens with access to public information. For, as it is rightly emphasized, journalists guard the citizens’ access to information and what is meant here is not a privilege or special rights of journalists, but the service to society.
