Summary/Abstract: Treating everyone in an organization with equal respect and objectivity should show human resources (HR) professionals’ responsibility for improving the workplace environment. Infusing motivation and commitment is the key measure of managerial competence. The boundary between motivation and demotivation may sometimes lead to confusion. Among proactive developmental strategies, the performance appraisal is a tool that may add value to organizational goals. Before undertaking an appraisal, the objectives should be defined, discussed, analyzed and agreed. That is why HR managers should reflect on what appraisals are to be used for. The article aims to underline a range of attitudes, knowledge and skills used to validate decisions of promotions and status and conclude on the performance appraisal effectiveness.
