Summary/Abstract: Although the Bible is the most translated book in the world, there are still many problems with translating its ideas and references of various types. Our research has been carried out on the phrasemes that can be traced back to the Bible. The goal of the paper is to compare translation of these units into Slovak, Czech and English language and find out their lexical motivation since number of biblical stories, proverbs, similes or parables have frequently been transformed into common idioms.
