Summary/Abstract: Sexuality of schizophrenia patients remains poorly understood and often overlooked in clinical practice. A significant number of patients do not engage in sexual contacts. Those who do are at risk of sexual dysfunction of varied aetiology. Positive symptoms often include sexual content. The experience of sexual abuse may influence the onset and further course of the disease. People with schizophrenia are more likely to engage in a sexual behaviour involving a risk of a sexually transmitted disease or unplanned pregnancy. Further development of diagnosing skills taking sexuality into account, education and solving sexual problems in schizophrenic patients is highly needed.
