Summary/Abstract: The immanent part of any wardrobe is the underwear. It determines not only man’s physical appearance but also health. This is why authors decided to investigate the history of men’s underwear, contemporary opinions about it and overall health aspects. At first we need to draw clear distinction between man and woman underwear. The last one appeared much later (1830s). This underwear – what could be said about any underwear – is not indispensable part of men’s wear yet does improve general comfort and level of personal hygiene. Elegance of men’s underwear originates in simplicity of its form and the quality of the fabric. Usually this parts of men’s garments are very prosaic and have very little to do with seductive functions. However this is a domain of women’s underwear – the insidious tempter. “History of woman’s underwear is a story of nonsense emerging from depths of human imagination. World of men’s underwear is cold mind dominated while women’s is an example of semantics of sensuality” – Cecil Sain Laurent. The survey run by “Femme pratigue” in 1988 showed that most of underwear is bought for pleasure [1].
