Summary/Abstract: In the article the author attempts to answer some questions related to the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation. He presents how Russia used its knowledge and experience to conduct unconventional military operations. He justifies that Russia employed the myatezhevoyna concept put forward by Colonel Evgeny Messner. The author’s another objective was to raise awareness of the necessity for the recognition and research on military concepts which originate and develop not only in the USA or other NATO member countries, but also in the Russian Federation.
