Summary/Abstract: The article examines the modes of communication which are set up during Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to Lebanon in September 2012. It tries to show how the local religious institution and the media – which constitute the main arms of the religious communities struggling for political power and control – take over from the modest and cautious papal discourse in order to create an act of presence and defiance to be invested in a context of regional religious radicalisation.
