Social revitalization in the development of problem areas

Summary/Abstract: Revitalization is bringing back to life areas thrown out for some reason on the margin of the settlement unit functioning in the neighborhood. Previous revitalization activities in line with the directions of cohesion policy have not brought the expected results – no significant improvement in the problem areas has been achieved. The aim of the article is to define areas of social revitalization that will contribute to the development of the problem area. Although the subject literature is rich, it is worth to supplement it with a relatively new perspective that is created by the implementation of revitalization programs in problem areas. The text also contains the characteristics of the degradation mechanism of the area and its effects. The conclusion presents the benefits resulting from the implementation of social revitalization as a tool to reduce crisis situations.
