Summary/Abstract: The paper examines the history of privatization during the transition to market economy in Bulgaria. The basic stages and characteristics of privatization in industry and agriculture as well as their relation to the political process of changing the system and the activities and requirements of the new for the country foreign factors – the USA and the EU are outlined on the basis of studies, press, official records and statistic data. Special attention is paid to the economic and political consequences from restitution, restoration of land property rights in “real boundaries” and mass and cash privatization which determined the possibilities for economic development of the country after EU accession in 2007.
