Summary/Abstract: The article discusses conscience as a category belonging to philosophical concepts. According to the author, in the legal sense it is used in the Constitution of the Republic of Poland and therefore requires a legal determination. This text is polemical to many scientific studies as well as to journalistic statements that advocate almost unlimited right to not perform certain medical procedures because of conscientious objection. It also has a polemical quality to the nature and role of religious declarations, submitted by doctors and other persons working in health-care, insofar as these declarations may affect the behaviour of physicians in relation to those patients whose conscience is different from their own.
