Summary/Abstract: This article explores the individualized approach to translation in relation to the qualities of the work of one author – Osip Mandelstam. Bednarczyk examines translation in the context of pre-translation text analysis, considering the conditions of a text’s creation, translation dominants and the obstacles faced by the translator. In the first part Bednarczyk considers the basic conditions related to translating Mandelstam’s work, which allows her to identify the specificities of this task. In the next part she offers a pretranslation text analysis of three of his poems, presenting her own translations among others along with notes on the translation process and its results.
