Summary/Abstract: In this paper Dr Munib Maglajlic offers a brief overview of Bosniak literature, beginning with oral literature in its various prose and verse forms, individually defining and broadly describing lyric songs, ballads and romances and epics, as well as providing facts about the heroes of these songs, about the structure of oral tales and their sub-forms, and describing them. The paper also briefly presents the literature of well-known authors, from the mediaeval period - with valuable letters, documents testifying to gifts, and charters of Bosnian feudal lords - to the literature of the Ottoman period, both in oriental languages and alhamiado, in prose and verse, with ghazals, qasidas, tahmis, mathnawis, epitaphs, didactic and mystic compositions on the one hand, and travel chronicles, philosophical and theological texts, historical chronicles and legal texts on the other hand, includingan overview of the names of their aUthors. The third segment of Bosniak literature presented by Maglajlic in this paper is the literature of the Austro-Hungarian period, where in addition to the characteristics of literary accomplishments he gives the names of the aUthors and of their works, setting them in the context of their time and place, giving essential facts about the works and the trends to which they belong, together with about the general, cultural and social circumstances in which these authors and their works emerged. Bosniak literature from between the wars and the contemporary period also form part of this account, where once again the author refers to the most important writers, trends and works of contemporary Bosniak literature and gives concise information about their basic character.
