The role of the “suweren” in contemporary Polish discourse– one-sided view

Summary/Abstract: This article describes the changes that occur in the use of the expression suweren in thecontemporary language of politics in Poland. The author assumes that over the past twoyears increasing occurrence of this expression has been observed and thus analyzes theconsequences of increasing frequency on the meaning, expression and pragmatic level.The main thesis of the article is based on the statement that the atmosphere of politicaldisputes affects the changes in Polish vocabulary. However, the article examines onlythe occurrences of this expression on one side of these disputes. In the analytical part,the emphasis is placed on the phenomenon of neosemantization and axiologicalchanges. In conclusion, the author also deals with the issue of collocation, which isrelated to the issue of neosemantization.
