Summary/Abstract: The EU state aid policy is aimed at combining the rules of competition with the energy policy objectives. New investments in the energy sector are linked to the promotion of renewable energy and benefit from Member States subsidies, feed-in tariffs, a premium in addition to the market price and electricity charges. Investments are limited to coal power plants. The financing renewable energy is consistent with the competition EU law. There is a clear preference for support for the promotion of renewable energy sources, which corresponds to the targets of the energy policy.
