Summary/Abstract: The paper studies the meaning and the influence areas of an international transit road between Lithuania and Greece, which is called the Via Carpathia. The article focuses only on the part of the road corridor, which is planned in Poland along its Eastern border. It must be emphasized that voivodeships located in Eastern Poland are poorer and less developed in comparison to the average level of the European Union. Thus, the Via Carpathia transport corridor is of great importance both to the regional road infrastructure and the regional economic growth. The aim of the paper is to analyze the existing road transport infrastructure along with other transport statistics, such us public road density, road accessibility and regional annual road freight transport. Taking into account the analyzed transport statistics the paper identifies the key areas that can benefit from the Via Carpathia the most. The main hypothesis of the article is formulated as follows: transport infrastructure in less developed regions is a key factor to increase investment attractiveness and interregional competitiveness. In order to verify this hypothesis, a method of descriptive statistics is used.
