Summary/Abstract: The article considers the role of intelligentsia in the repressions against church initiated by N.S. Khrushchev in the USSR in 1958—1964. The reasons for the appearance of a rather serious though spontaneous dissi-dent movement after Khrushchev resignation are exposed.
