Summary/Abstract: The paper describes the evolution of the European Union’s and Poland’s innovation policy and the role it plays as a driver of economic growth in the context of smart specializations. Being an object of policymaking at the national level, innovation policy represents an element of overall economic policy pursued by a state. It is reflected in providing support to innovative businesses by developing and deploying relevant and effective policy instruments. At the same time, innovation policy attempts to stimulate innovative efforts as important contributors to economic growth.
