Summary/Abstract: The detailed migration data of the Hungarian Central Statistical Office allow us to analyse the international migration over a longer period with the help of demographic and economic statistical indicators. This article, on the one hand, opens up a new chapter at district level, and on the other hand it analyses the direct and indirect effects of cross-border migration movements at a new territorial depth. The purpose of this paper is to present the migration characteristics of Hungary as a destination country, based on the center-agglomeration system at district level, by distinguishing the centers and other settlements. The aim of the analysis is to find out how different in this relation the territorial, demographic and economic characteristics of foreign citizens, foreign born and resident population are. For the analysis data of the popula-tion censuses in 2001 and 2011 and of the micro-census of 2016 have been used. It can be stated, that settling in the centre is more typical of immigrants, than that of the resident population. I assume that foreign citizens are rather concentrated in the city areas. Majority of foreign born people arrived from the neighbouring countries mainly receiving Hungarian citizenship and knowing local conditions, and Hungary, so for them the attraction of big cities is much less, than for those, who came from farther countries. The centre-agglomeration pattern and area use of those, who were born abroad is in between the habits of resident population and foreign citizens.
