It is well known that dimension of poverty was important also for St. Francis. But what was he focusing on when talking about the Church? Was it poverty? In this work we analyse the image of the Church in the spiritual experience of St. Francis of Assisi. The research is based on The Writings of St. Francis. We are looking for a specific indications about the Church, explicit and implicit, in order to gather sufficient amount of data for reconstruction of St. Francis understanding of the Church. Firstly we offer a brief context of the Church at that time. The core of the work is the analysis of texts supported with statistics and tables.
