Summary/Abstract: The first Catilinarian speech consists of 12 pages, 13 chapters, 33 passages in the edition of Müller which is easy of access in Hungary. In the present paper I argue that the 1. chapter is the exordium in which Cicero reacts upon the new rhetorical situation, that is, Catilina did not leave Rome, quite the contrary, he appeared on the meeting of the senate. The 2. chapter is the narration, the facts of the case, and the proposition which prepares the argumenentation, the most important part of the speech. The first Catilinarian is special because it contains the characteristics of all three kinds of causes. Its peculiarity is that its exordium, narration and argumentation, too, have six parts, the motive of this disposition is, presumably, the improvisational character of the speech.
