On the subjects of political socialization connected with the Russian Narodnik Movement

Summary/Abstract: Theoreticians of the Russian Narodnik movement emphasized the virtues ofthe traditional peasant economy and set the role of Russian intelligentsia inpursuit of the socio-economic progress of the country, where emphasis was placedmainly on the work of the people and on the ideals of the people.Both the legal as well as the illegal press, which constituted a specific publicforum of ideological supporters, came to the theorists of the movement’s aid inpropagating the Narodnik ideas. In fact, never before was literature in Russia sosocially involved. Under the influence of the then press the ordinary readerbecame a zealous social activist.The subject of this article is an analysis of the process of ideological consciousnessformation of the Russian society of the second half of the 19th century,when journalism was so important.
