Regional Support Programs for the Modernization of Infrastructure of Local Fire Protection Units Based on the Example of the Małopolskie Voivodeship in 2011–2015

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present the issue of strengthening local fire safety by means of regional funds to modernize the infrastructure of units performing tasks in the field of fire protection. They present the modernization effects as a result of functioning in the Małopolska region in the years 2011–2015. The scale of involvement of the region’s authorities in the process of modernizing the local fire infrastructure has significantly accelerated the process of reconstruction and expansion of the fixed assets of local fire protection units. Without such support, this type of process would be long-lasting, especially in the case of limited funds to this type of local authorities allocated from the budgets. The effects of the article was achieved thanks to the access to provincial reporting documents of the Marshal’s Office in Krakow in the scope of implemented programs supporting local investments in 2011–2015 as well as statistical data included in the Local Data Bank. The collected materials confirmed the main thesis of the work on the special role of regional support in the progress of modernization of the local fire safety infrastructure in the Małopolskie voivodship. They also showed that without their participation the level of local support in the area of renovation and extension of local infrastructure of this type does not satisfy the level of security needs of such units as volunteer fire brigades.
