Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to present potential pathways of innovation in tourist clusters in the context of globalization processes. Globalization enhances competitive pressure on industry firms in clusters and initiates innovation processes that are geared towards internal or external relationships. Processes directed at interconnected networks do not protect against the threat of isolation, which implies negative external effects of the network. Processes based on the construction of external links (foreign), related to the displacement of selected elements of the value chain (so-called selective relocation), allow to avoid isolation and to benefit from the network. The article was based on an analysis of subject literature and empirical research on innovation and clustering concepts in the tourism industry.
