Summary/Abstract: Lexical Notes I. 1. Author’s Intention vs. Realization in Early Modern Bulgarian Damaskins: prěobidja; 2. About the Suffix -in in Early Modern Bulgarian Damaskins / In the first note the author discusses the methods, underlying the interpretation of meaning in the recent Dictionary of the Seventeenth-Century Written Bulgarian Language on a Vernacular Basis (2013). The author suggests that the interpretation of meaning can be improved by expanding the range of old texts used for comparison. For instance, relying on the intuitions of current speakers of Standard Bulgarian, the dictionary claims that the hapax legomenon prěobidja means ‘to grieve, to insult, to outrage’ whereas its meaning is in fact ‘to disregard, to neglect’. In the second note the author analyses all the singular forms in -in of masculine nouns for persons in the Dictionary of the Seventeenth-Century Written Bulgarian Language on a Vernacular Basis and shows that the dialects underlying the two types of texts, included in the dictionary, differ in regard to their use of this suffix. The texts of type togiva illustrate a seventeenth-century Bulgarian dialect in which the suffix -in was more productive, whereas the texts of type togazi give a glimpse of another seventeenth-century Bulgarian dialect in which this suffix was less productive than in Standard Bulgarian.
