Methods of Risk Management in Public Organizations

Summary/Abstract: The reforms introduced in Poland have led to a need to develop a new approach to risk management in the public sector. Therefore, the aim of the article is to outline risk management problems faced by public sector organisations, with the focus on universal principles and methodology, which may be used in public management in this respect. On one hand, the discussions presented in the article are of the theoretical and conceptual character but, on the other hand, they also point out to practical applicability of the proposed solutions. The article is an attempt at transferring the risk management patterns and methods from the private sector to public sector organizations. The theoretical deliberations in the paper are illustrated by the empirical research results conducted among selected public hospitals in Poland. The article uses the method of synthesis. It also contains a review of scientific literature on the subject.
