Summary/Abstract: On the one hand, Camil Petrescu’s diary introduces itself as a recipient of the cultural memory of the interwar period and, on the other hand, as a “registrar” of the individual consciousness. Although the volume misses significant milestones, its fragmentarism requires the reader’s deep analysis of a tormented life and of a pretty winding existential way. Being known that he was suffering from hearing loss, the writer develops a sort of a subtle inner hearing/voice which enables him to carefully listen his daily thoughts. At the same time he makes an extended apology of death, on multiple pages, as a suicidal version, finally giving up this idea when he gains literary success. His partly-assumed anticallophilia in prose manifests especially in his peer-connections as well as in their comprehensive observation. “But there are several other things only known by God and I. A small part of them is encrypted here on this paper” – constitutes his hidden definition of the diary, that occurs during the whole development of the notes volume Note zilnice/ Daily Notes in the chiasmatic paradigm consciousness memory, i.e. memory consciousness.
