Summary/Abstract: This article focuses on the munificent donor and the ungrateful donee. Various relevant topics will be discussed, such as the nature of a donation, the requirement of registration and the circumstances that could lead to the revocation of a gift. The position in Roman, Roman-Dutch and South African law will be researched, with a view to determining whether and to what extent the latter two legal systems were built on Roman law.
