The Importance of Institutional Support for Generating Breakthrough Innovations on the Example of Technology Parks

Summary/Abstract: The publication addresses the problem of the extent to which technology parks support inventive activity and the process of absorbing and diffusing the knowledge of businesses based in them. The purpose of this publication is to investigate whether the status of technology park tenant influences inventive activity of enterprises and in what part it results from cooperation with entities remaining in the park structures. Simple mentation methodologies were used to achieve it. Research results show that although the degree of inventive activity of park tenants is not high, without the support from parks, many of developed solutions would not have arisen at all, and patent are able to take advantage of the geographic concentration of intellectual property.
