Summary/Abstract: If the incest theme is quite present in Western literature in general, it holds a special place in the eighteenth-century French literature and especially in the libertine literature. Though publicly condemned, incest is met frequently enough not only in the Old Regime society (from the Regent Philippe d’Orléans to minister Choiseul), but also in the libertine literature of the whole eighteenth century. In fact, incest is a common literary theme in most libertine works of the time. Hence, we are going to approach the role of the incest in two libertine works by François-Antoine Chevrier (1721-1762), Recueil de ces dames (1745) and Mémoires d’une honnête femme (1753), by drawing a parallel with other libertine works.
