Summary/Abstract: Han Kang’s The Vegetarian, published in 2007, has had an uncommon success on the international scene for a novel written in Korean. It has already been translated into several languages, including French, and has won prizes such as the prestigious Man Booker in 2016 for its English version. This dark and captivating novel is built on family relations, conceived, from the narrative point of view, as a succession of perspectives on a central character, Yonghye, that lacks voice in most of the pages. These perspectives belong to her family members: her husband, in the first chapter, her brother-in-law, in the second one, and her sister, in the last one. Our article focuses on the kinship between this book’s characters and shows how they configure a context that will lead to crisis and disaster.
