Summary/Abstract: According to István Bóna, the Grave Nr. 1. in Szegvár-Sápoldal belonged to the first generation of the Avars. Therefore he looked for the analogies of its burial customs and its grave goods in the east, mainly Central and Inner Asia. However, in the light of the new results, the cultural roots of the person who was buried in Sápoldal can be found in Eastern Europe, among the antecedents of the Sivashovka type burials. The connections of the grave goods can be interpreted not in Asian, but in an East-Central European context.
