Summary/Abstract: This paper focuses on the dimensions of water symbols in the culture and phraseology of Bulgarian, German and Turkish linguistic community. It discusses the semantic dimension of water. The diversity of images reveals two symbolic meanings of water that are fundamental and opposite at the same time, and namely positive and negative. On the one hand, the running clear water is considered to be the main source of life and the promising beginning that purifies, heals, and brings luck and happiness. On the other hand, the impure and stagnant water brings misfortune and is associated with laziness and betrayal.
