Summary/Abstract: The study aims to bring some corrections to the date of the great fire of the year 1570 in Sibiu (Hermannstadt) and some clarifications on the magnitude of the disaster, corroborating the statements of chroniclers and historians with the data provided by the sources. As primary sources, the tax lists (there have been registered by the account books of the major) give information about those inhabitants of the town who have been exempted from paying taxes because of the fire damage. Reviewing the lists of the exempted inhabitants from the year of fire and those of the years following the catastrophe, I notice that in 1570 there were actually two fires in the town, besides the great autumn fire that caused destruction in the entrenchment, a smaller episode took place in the spring. Another aspect that emerges with the clarification of these details is precisely the one related to the organization of the town tax system: the way of taxation, the taxable mass of the buildings, the way of granting the exemptions and the inhabitants.
