Summary/Abstract: Based on the author’s teaching experience, mainly at Master’s level, the present article ventures to reflect on the use of electronic text corpora in foreign language for special purposes, mainly in the fields of international business and law studies, but also in specialized translation. After a brief description of the nature of text corpora, the article gives an overview of the author’s use of such corpora in his own teaching practice before commenting on the limits of their usefulness in training geared to professional applications. The discussion reveals that the virtually unlimited availability of textual resources does not free students from the effort of thorough text analysis, that the use of appropriate terminology is bound to reflect proper insights into comparative law and that aligned corpora as products of translation are liable to (constructive) criticism.
