Summary/Abstract: Formed over the years as institutions belonging to the white educated men, the boards were a forbidden territory for those who didn’t seem to fit into the group of “the best”. Based on self-alikeness and hidden behind their own limitations for the different ones, they were the elite of the corporate management. But the globalizing and ready-to-change world destroyed their security and forced them to totally reconsider their composition and behaviour in terms of being open to the new times, thus accepting women in the top management. The road to the top for the women is long but not impossible any more. Since the middle of the last century the analysists are looking for the reasons for the glass limitations before the women. The Social identity theory and the Principal Agent theory are just vague representatives of the possible reasons for the rejection and the acceptance of women in boards. While the first of them only shows reasons for not letting women into the elite team, the latter proves their right to participate actively, even if just in the role of independent directors.
