Summary/Abstract: In the age of postcolonialism it is obvious that literature needs to be newly defined. Texts are hybrid structures offering the space needed for the author’s individual expression. Homi Bhabhas notion of “third space” creates the opportunity for a synthesis of identity based on one’s individual cultural and linguistic experience. In this context, the author Herta Muller uses different languages as a tool to create her specific text rhythm and style. Examples taken out of a variety of her texts illustrate her way to deal with the topics ‘language’ and ‘identity’. Her innovative texts reveal her very own concept of interculturalism.
