Summary/Abstract: Theophanes the Confessor and Patriarch Nikephoros I of Constantinople wrote that the Bulgarians had reached the so-called Varna near Odessos. According to Constantine VII Porphyrogennetos who wrote about „the exclavis“. Varna was the name of a river known later as Provadiyska or Devnya river. In 1907-1908 Varna river was partially excavated to make the old Varna Lake – Black Sea canal near the city of Varna. As a result of this activity Varna river was buried and since then it has not existed in the territory and on the map of Bulgaria. Does anyone remember about this river now?
