Summary/Abstract: Based on the published and unpublished sources and literature, the Kotor patrician family of Biste is presented through four generations in the Middle Ages. Biographical sketches of eminent individuals from this family are given, and their business and social activity is presented. Their trading activities in Kotor, Dubrovnik, Serbia and Bosnia are outlined. Some of them successfully dealt with trade. They amassed fortune and thus gained reputation, which enabled them to discharge important social functions in Kotor and Serbia. The important role of some members of the Biste-Primuti family in the so cial-economic life of the town is reflected in the fact that they and their descendants ob tained a considerable land in Grblje. Successful trading activity and social reputation of prominent individuals from the Biste-Primuti family served as the basis for studying the social-economic history of Kotor in the 14th and the first half of the 15th century. Their business and social activity served as an example of successful business people character istic for the maritime lands in the late Middle Ages.
