Summary/Abstract: The difficulty in reflecting on early music education often concerns the adoption of a concrete, empirically justified, theoretical concept. It may be believed that repeatedly reported research results in this field have already outlined the direction of theory and practice as complementary qualities of musical education. One of the aspects of the impact of sonic reality on children’s activity is the distinction of the category of hearing and listening to the music. The theoretical context adopted in this paper is E.E. Gordon’s theory of learning music and its key category of audition. In its light, the analysis of hearing of music (structure, sound, register) as a cultural matter can be an inspiration for the operationalisation of a specific type of activity, i.e. listening to the music. This approach seems to be particularly interesting
