Summary/Abstract: Who are the trouper puppeteers today, what are alternative puppet theatre institutions like in Transylvania?Ildikó Novák’s study analyses the structural changes in puppet theatre resulting from the change of regime in 1990 focusing on contemporary puppet theatre alternatives. The study follows the transformations in the function of the repertoire theatre puppet-actor and the rebirth of the ideal of the know-it-all puppeteer while creating an inventory of the multi-coloured and uniquely structured puppet theatre institutions. The conclusion​ is that quite often “the body of the puppeteer is the institution itself”.
