Summary/Abstract: The presentstudy (anticipating an entry in process of redaction for The Encyclopedia of the FundamentalPolitical Philosophy Works. 2000-present, of the Research Fundamental Program ofthe Institute of Political Sciences and International Relations “Ion I. C. Brătianu”,Romanian Academy, Bucharest) approaches Kwame Anthony Appiah’s acceptance ofcosmopolitanism as an ambivalent/survivor concept, both an adventure and an ideal, aterm which must be recovered and rehabilitated, in fact, a double alternative given toglobalization and multiculturalism. Following the main ideas of Appiah’s volume, thepresent study opens the context, clarifying the political philosopher’s self-positioning inthe series of the cosmopolitanism examples, pointing out his particular status from theNew York Times’ Ethicist columnist to his filmed / documentary answers. Cosmopolitanism:Ethics in a World of Strangers represents a philosophical and political approachof cosmopolitanism as program.
