Summary/Abstract: The article is dedicated to lawyers of Russian Empire, particular the lawyers of North-Western governorates. The paper describes the legal principles and the political conditions under which the lawyers of Russian Empire were acted in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. The author focused, inter alia, on the principle of the independence of the lawyers. He also pointed out the differences between the systems operated in the Russian Empire and in countries such as: England, Belgium, France, Germany and Austria. The main factor, which had an impact on the development of the lawyers of the North-Western governorates - was not the normative factor, but the political factor.
